Navigating Las Vegas

Las Vegas Monorail – Pricing: Single Ride $5.00, One Day pass $12.00 and 3 Day Pass $28.00

The stations that they service are the following:

This method of transportation will alleviate the time spent walking the strip, say for example from the Mirage to the MGM. It took us 45 minutes to navigate while walking and only minutes to go back via the Monorail. Each stop has more than one casino by it, so please look at what casinos are around the one that you are at.

TAXIS
Yes, if truly needed, this is another form of transportation around the area. We were 10 minutes away from the strip and it cost us $28-$30 to get back to our resort. Please check with each driver before getting in. If we had gotten into the first one that was outside the casino, he had no idea where the resort was. So, we went to the next one. (We had already been told by the resort how much the taxi should be) On the second one, he told us $50! Definitely no! So, we then walked to the 3rd one. We gave him the address and told him the streets and he knew exactly how to get there and for around the amount of money we were told! So, please check out each driver before departing! Especially if you are off of the strip! They all basically will start off with approximately $2-$3 before you even leave, so be prepared!

Deuce Bus
Riding the Deuce Bus is another form of inexpensive travel. Have fun seeing the sights from a double decker bus in Las Vegas!
Rates are usually priced out as the following: Full Fare, One Way Reduced Far, 24 hour Residential Pass, 24 hour Reduced Residential Pass, 24 Hour all access pass, 3 day all access pass, 3 day reduced All Access Pass, 30 day All Access Pass, 30 day Reduced Fair Pass, Pre-punched cards and so much more! They will even run Monthly promotions!

Limousines
Ah Yes! The Ultimate in Travel Luxury! Having a wedding? Rent one! They are great! We have personally had limos pick us up at the airport and they meet you in the baggage area, you point out your luggage and they take it off the rack and take you to your hotel! Awesome! When my sister got married in Vegas, for all 45 of us, they had one of the first SUV Limos out there! Awesome! (It didn’t take all 45 of us in one of course) Just tip your driver well. Looking for a gals getaway or even a bachelor party? Hop aboard one of these and have the party of your life!

Exercise walking
Now, let us not forget about another form of transportation! Ah, yes! Our feet! You can make it either an adventure or a workout, depending on what route you take! We found the sidewalks to not be as crowded as usual, but yes, still interesting with yes, those guys all handing out those cards with women on them in one area! That was a ways before the MGM! The sidewalks, yes were crowded, but not like they used to be. There are now more and more walkways between the casinos which alleviates the walking traffic on the sidewalks. So, when you venture out there, plan your nights walking with the intention of walking on the walkways adjoining a lot of casinos. This will bring you up and over the road and not along side of it! In any event! Experience Las Vegas and Have Fun!

The following foods are just some that we have come across and many more abound. I only hit on a few of the great things in Vegas!
Restaurants

Food
The times that we have been out there, many food choices abound, but here are just some that really caught our interest. Folks, please feel free to call me and I will personally add your favorite one to this list!

Il Fornaio at New York, New York – Little Italian Restaurant which houses a wonderful fresh bakery also. Delicious smells abound upon you when entering and the service is impeccable as the waiter may even place your napkin on your lap after seating you! Very good Italian meals there! A must see! Reservations preferred as this is a very busy restaurant!

Gallaghers Steak House New York, New York – Steaks hang in the window soon to become your dinner. Steaks to whatever your liking and very big. Reservations preferred as this, too is a very busy restaurant! Stay for the wonderful food and great deserts!

Grand Lux Café in both the Venetian and the Palazzo – This has global cuisine. Actually, the creators are the Cheesecake factory. Everything from steaks, seafood and burgers to breakfast, lunch dinner and dessert. Portions are huge, but great! Don’t forget also about the Cheesecake there! This restaurant was nice to have in both locations as we were going to a show at the Wynn, so we chose the Palazzo for our Grand Lux Café!

Salt Lick – Red Rock Canyon Casino
Definitely all barbecue food but very good! Are you craving some barbecued Ribs? Enjoy your beverages while waiting! While you are there, you may also purchase some barbecue rubs and also shirts from the restaurant. I think that while we were there, we just happened to get an off night as we have heard that usually they have really good service!
Things to see in Vegas!

Bellagio has the musical water fountains that can be watched from any point. Right next to them and listen to the music or take a ride up the Eiffel Tower and view the fountains from the top. Inside, past the reservations desk, also take the time to view their latest beautiful displays.

Treasure Island – Outside they have the new all women's pirate show that goes on nightly, but if it is too windy, will not go on. See them battle it out in a pirate fight!

Freemont Street – This street is in the Downtown Area of Vegas on the very north end of the strip! Every night around dusk, they power down the casino lights and right above you is a myriad of video that flashes across the domed screen above. Brand new bulbs in 2006 that are much brighter!

Rio – Carnival in the Sky! Step inside the casino during certain times and above your head there is a carnival in the sky. You can check ahead of time and actually pay to ride the float and throw beads! Yes, climb up the stairs to the Balconies and act as goofy as you can and get beads thrown to you!

Venetian – Take a leisurely ride in a Gondola either outside or inside the building. Maybe you want to get married there? Have a wedding on the bridge that goes over the river! Maybe sit at the restaurant there and have a great meal while listening to them serenade the riders.

Paris – How about having your photo taken on the Paris bridge inside. Send your friends greetings from Paris and be the envy of everyone!

New York, New York – If you are an avid roller coaster person, step deep inside this building and take a ride on the twisty roller coaster there that will start inside the building and then loop out and around to the outside still looping and twisting. Lockers are available for any loose items, sunglasses, etc. Quite the shaker upper!

MGM Grand – Inside the casino is known the lion exhibit. Did you know that those lions are not the same ones all day? They actually have a farm in Vegas which houses the animals so they are only allowed to be in that area for a certain amount of time! After a few hours, they are rotated with another one, each one getting their turn and rest.

Mirage – Start off with just being mesmerized by the many colorful fish that are behind the reservations desk. A huge 20,000 gallon tank adorns the back wall and a myriad of colorful fish abound. Many hours can be spent here.
Next, take time to go to Siegrfried and Roy's Secret garden to watch the white tigers. As of Nov. 2008 Java, a brand new male leopard was born! A Dolphin habitat also exists! To top it all off! Watch the brand new (as of Dec 08) Volcano erupt in hot flashes of lava! Fireballs of more than 12’ shoot into the air! Shows on the hour!
Driving excursions
If you have a chance to rent a car! Do it! Many sights to see out there!

Hoover Dam – One of the Biggest dams ever made that is holding back Lake Mead. There is a gift shop there and you may also walk across the dam and look over or even take a tour on the inner workings of the dam. Now, also right next to the dam is a new undertaking. Not new exactly, it’s been 6 years in the making. Soon to be completed will be the new highway and a bridge which will then carry most of the traffic across the river therefore alleviating the traffic across the dam.

Death Valley – Wow! We recently had a chance to drive there and let me tell you! This was in the end of March. The temps there were at least 20 degrees hotter than other places, so be prepared! Lots of water! Wonderful driving tour! You can even take a circle drive within the Death Valley National Park which will wind you through some of the most interesting and colorful mountains around! Also, no vehicles over 25’ as there would not be enough room on either side of the vehicle for the corners! Stop at one place
Which has the sign 190 feet below sea level! Also, at an intersection there is
1 yes one, 4* resort. Also at this intersection is a restaurant, bar, trading post and cabins for rent or you may camp there yourself. Basically, that is the last place to stop for quite awhile. While there, you must make a stop at Borax Mine! It is a neat walk (very hot) and a huge Borax lake there!

Red Rock Canyon and Fire of the Valley State Park – These are two wonderful driving excursions. Along the way, you may see some animals,
But will actually see some rock climbers along the stops! Red rock abounds in those areas. Even spots where there used to be hills and no longer are due to the high winds in the area over the years. Bonnie Springs Ranch is within one of these parks and has a neat piece of history. It is butted right up to the mountains. While there, ask for a tour of not only the inside of the building, but find the right person and tip him to take you out back to the back buildings where the rest of the history is and those folks are buried.

Grand Canyon Skywalk – Wow! Just recently returned from there! You drive about 21 miles to the park on a washboard road. It was about a 2 hour drive from Vegas. Upon entering, they will show you where to park your vehicle in the lot. You then go into the building and pay for up to 3 tours with or without meals. We took the Grand Canyon Skywalk and Guano Point as it was getting late. You may also add on the Ranch if you choose which is fun for kids! If you arrive around lunch time you may either eat at your vehicle if you have things or wait until you get to the park. It’s more convenient, however, to probably purchase a meal with your tour as you really don’t’ want to lug in and out coolers at every stop. Once you pay, you then board any bus you want that will take you into the park. Upon entering the building, you will be asked to hand in all cameras, cell phones, etc which will take pictures and they put it in a bin and lock it in a locker and they hand you a key! You will also be provided footies for your feet! We walked the Glass Skywalk that juts out over the Grand canyon! Wow! I did it! Afraid of heights and all, we all did it! 4,000 feet above the ground! While on the Skywalk, they have 3 points in which you can get your pictures taken
By them. When you finally decide to walk off the skywalk, you can then go into the gift shop and purchase the pictures you want! We got a deal and I purchase all of them, plus bonus photos that they gave us! You can stay out there as long as you choose. When done, walk out and then take any one of the buses that are riding around every 15 minutes to your next stop. We then went to the next one:

Guano Point – Yes, as you can see by the name Guano. The reason for Guano Point is the mine that used to be there to mine the Guano. What is Guano you ask? Let me tell you. Folks used to climb down over the edge
Of the cliff and climb into the bat cave and mine you know what from the bats. Yes, it is bat poop! There is no longer a mine there, but I guess just as it gets dusk, you can see the bats still flying out of the cave! Wonderful picture views from here also. Now, this particular sight does not have a railing on the cliff, so please be careful at how close you get to the edge.
The Hualapi tribe owns these properties and they will put on shows for you and even have jewelry there they have made.
