Luggage may be checked on day of departure only. For red-eye flights, luggage may be checked the day before, up to six hours before departure. Luggage checked-in less than standard luggage acceptance times are subject to late check-in rules and limits of liability. The standard luggage acceptance times are usually 30 minutes prior to departure at most U.S. locations (see chart below for exceptions.)

Luggage may be checked for continuous domestic air transportation. Luggage will only be accepted for those flights on which the passenger is traveling. All luggage is subject to inspection.

The passenger's name is required on the outside of each checked item. The name of the passenger presenting the ticket shall be the only identifying name affixed to the baggage and Northwest may refuse to accept any baggage that has a name that is different from the name of the passenger.

Items not suitably packed to withstand normal handling will be refused unless passenger signs a liability release form.

The chart below shows minimum check-in times for departures to ensure that luggage is placed on same flight. If checked luggage is accepted after posted cutoff times, Northwest will not be liable for any expenses incurred, including delivery expenses as a result of luggage not being loaded on the same flight as the passenger.
